Email notifications
Renta's email notification system provides a reliable way to monitor your data infrastructure without relying on third-party messaging apps. You can receive detailed reports and immediate alerts directly in your inbox, ensuring your team stays updated on pipeline status and credit consumption.
Adding email recipients
Configure individual or team email addresses to receive alerts.
Go to Alerts in the sidebar and select the Notification channels tab.

In the Email recipients section, click the Add email button.

Enter a Display name (for example, "Marketing Team"), the recipient's Full name, and their Email address. Click Add email channel to save.

The new recipient will appear in the list with an Active status.

Tip: We recommend using the Display name to identify the team or role (for example, "On-call Engineer") rather than just the person's name, making it easier to manage subscriptions later.
Enabling alerting rules
Once your email recipients are added, you must subscribe them to specific events to start receiving notifications.
Setting up alerting rules
Define which events should trigger an email notification.
Navigate to the Alerts tab. Find the Pipeline failed rule and switch it to On.

In the Send to search bar, select the email channels you created. Multiple recipients can be assigned to the same rule.

Practical use case: For larger organizations, you can route billing alerts to your finance department and pipeline failure alerts to your data engineering team by creating separate email channels for each group.
Error deduplication
To prevent your inbox from being overwhelmed by repetitive alerts, Renta automatically groups identical errors. You will receive one email notification per 24 hours for persistent issues until the status changes to Resolved.
Best practices
-
Use team aliases. Instead of adding personal emails, use distribution lists (such as
data-team@company.com). This ensures alerts aren't missed if an individual is out of office. -
Filter by priority. Set up inbox filters in your email client to flag Renta alerts as high priority or move them to a dedicated folder for easier tracking.
-
Regularly audit recipients. Review your email recipient list quarterly to remove former employees and ensure new team members are correctly subscribed to critical notifications.
